Keep your kids safe and away from pet food

A recent report from the Center for disease Control warns of the risk of getting salmonella from pet food. In a study that reveals the first known human link to salmonella and pet food, researchers say that half of the cases were children under two years old.
While they do not believe the children necessarily ate pet food, the researchers say that touching infected animals, or their food dishes, and the putting their fingers in their mouths is most likely what caused the infection to spread.
Dry pet foods are an under-recognized source of salmonella infections in humans, and it's likely other illnesses since then were unknowingly caused by tainted pet food, said Casey Barton Behravesh, the report's lead author and a researcher at the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
There is no known link to human salmonella and wet pet food according to the report.

Infectious diseases

© kyle simourdInfectious diseases are typically caused by bacterial, viral, fungal or protozoan infection. There are two main ways infectious diseases are spread or transmitted. The first is by animal to person for instance, the Swine Flu and the Bird Flu. The other method of transmitting an infectious disease is through person to person such as HIV and other STDs.
Common diseases include Rabies, Diarrhea and Hepatitis C. Each type of infectious disease has different symptoms, which can lead to negative consequences if they are not treated such as failure of the heart or even death. Depending on the type of infection, there are levels of severity which can cause minor or major results. It is important however, to be aware that there are ways to prevent infectious diseases.
